Choose system preferences from the apple menu then click users groups. Enter your current mac account password.

How to change your mac password if you have forgotten it.
Click the lock icon in the bottom left of the window.
Reset your mac login password sometimes a login password needs to be resetfor example if you have forgotten the login password and cant use a password hint to remember it.
Select the account you do know the password to.
Thats the easy stuff.
Select your user name from the list of users.
If you dont remember that password either try one of the other methods outlined below.
Click on system preferences from the drop down menu.
Click on users groups.
Click on the apple menu icon in the upper left corner of your mac.
If you know your password and can use it to log in to your account you can change your password in users groups preferences.
Click the lock icon in the bottom left corner of the preference pane and enter your administrator password.
Enter the password for that account.
Click on the apple logo in the top left and choose log out.
Ideally youll have linked your apple id to your user account on your mac during the initial setup which will make it possible to reset your user.
From the mac login or boot screen enter any wrong password three times to summon the password hint box and a message saying if you forgot your password you can reset it using your apple id click on that arrow icon to start the apple id based reset.
Click the change password button then follow the onscreen instructions.
Follow these steps to reset your mac password from another account.
Launch system preferences and select the users groups preference pane.
When a users login password is reset a new default keychain is created to store the users passwords.
Open system preferences users groups.
Click the lock in the bottom left corner of the window to unlock the settings.
Log in to a second administrator account.
